Ellen Altfest was born and raised in New York City. She received her MFA from Yale University in Painting in 1997. In the last two years, Altfest has been included in group exhibitions at the Bellwether Gallery, P.P.O.W., Dechiara/Stewart, Silverstein Gallery, Boston Center for the Arts and the Provincetown Museum.
Altfest was a 1999-2000 resident at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She also received an Angel Grant to attend the Vermont Studio Center. Her work was recently acquired by the Pfizer corporation.
In July 2001 Altfest curated an exhibition, "All-American," at the Bellwether gallery, which was reviewed in Time Out New York and The New York Times.
Ellen Altfest lives in New York City. Her studio is in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
